The band
Fuego de Barrio is a Hamburg seven-piece that moves easily between classic Cuban son and jazz standards. The band was founded in 2017 in Oldenburg by Alexander (piano, vocals, bandleader), and today operates out of Hamburg with a stable seven-musician lineup: vocals, trumpet, piano, bass, congas, timbales, bongos.
What they play
A wide repertoire with a clear idea: the Cuban son that comes up in the fifties with Compay Segundo, all the way to Latin jazz standards like “Blue Bossa” (Kenny Dorham) and “Moliendo Café” (Hugo Blanco). They play to dance when there’s a floor, and to listen seated when the format asks for it. Never both at once.
Formats
They work as a quartet, sextet or the full seven-piece depending on the room. Private parties, weddings, city festivals, jazz clubs. The music adapts, the attitude doesn’t.
